Recently, Qualcomm announced 5g network simulation results. 5g browsing speed exceeded 490mbps, the download speed increased by more than 10 times, and the LTE network was 8mbps. And said that 5g NR network may be enabled next year.According to foreign media reports, in the past few months, we have seen many reports on the theoretical speed of 5g network. So in the actual environment, what is the working situation of 5g network? Qualcomm will answer this question with the results of 5g simulation test at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The results show that the speed of 5g network is really fast.Qualcomm's test simulates the real situation in Frankfurt and San Francisco based on the current location and frequency band allocation of mobile base stations. Simulation factors include terrain conditions, network requirements of different users, and various devices requiring LTE and 5g connections with different network speeds, so as to accurately understand the actual situation after 5g network is enabled. In addition, such simulation is aimed at 5g NR network, rather than the dedicated 5g network independent of the current 4G LTE construction. 5g NR network may be launched next year.
The simulation of Frankfurt uses 100MHz in the 3.5GHz band, and the network is based on the Gigabit LTE network with five LTE bands. The results were amazing. The browsing speed of ordinary 5g users exceeded 490mbps, far exceeding the 56mbps of ordinary 4G users. The improvement of download speed is also very obvious. More than 90% of users download at least 100Mbps on 5g network and 8mbps on LTE network.The simulation results for San Francisco are even more amazing. In San Francisco, Qualcomm's analog network uses 800MHz in the 28ghz millimeter wave band. The network is based on a Gigabit LTE network with four authorized LTE bands and LAA bands.Within the coverage of millimeter wave band, the download speed of ordinary 5g users reaches 1.4gbps, which is much higher than 71mbps of ordinary 4G users, and the speed is increased by about 23 times. The download speed of 90% of users has been increased from at least 10Mbps to 186mbps, while the general speed is 442mbps. In these two simulation tests, the video quality has also been greatly improved. Ordinary 5g users can watch 8K resolution, 12-fps and 10bit color streaming video.
Obviously, we still have a long way to go before this network speed becomes a reality. Qualcomm still provides only simulation results. Terminal and equipment manufacturers need to develop products that can provide this ultra fast network speed and build infrastructure for non independent 5g / Gigabit LTE networks.Even if 5g network can only achieve half of Qualcomm's simulation results, it will still be a huge leap. This will fundamentally change the way we use mobile devices.
