What Opportunities and Challenges Does the Evolution of the Internet of Things Provide for Enterpris

Many technical terms and words seem vague. For example, what does the term Internet of things mean and what impact will it have on our life and business? If you ask ten people to answer, you may get ten different answers. My answer is very simple. The Internet of things is the evolution of the Internet. Think about it, the original Internet content was input by human beings, and the relevant consumers of these contents are human beings. The focus of the Internet is on research, business operations / communications, and new markets for retail and consumer goods. With the progress of science and technology, the Internet will be dominated by devices and sensors that provide data, analysis and insights, and ultimately benefit consumers and enterprises. This is the Internet of things (IOT). These interrelated devices and sensors provide the ability to communicate and take action on data with or without people, which then leads to the emergence of smart cities, smart homes, smart factories and so on.This evolution from the Internet to the Internet of things provides opportunities and challenges for enterprises. In this new era of the Internet of things, there are tens of billions of networked devices and sensors, but from a technical point of view, enterprises will face many challenges.

What Opportunities and Challenges Does the Evolution of the Internet of Things Provide for Enterpris 1

For example, each device and sensor needs a network address to communicate. The original Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) could support up to 4 billion network addresses. The United States Internet number Registry (arin) announced in September 2015 that the IPv4 addresses assigned to customers in North America had been used up. This means that many enterprises will need to adopt IPv6 numbering scheme, which will support more network addresses, about 52 trillion addresses per person.Another area is security planning and management. Tens of billions of devices, sensors, communication flows and related computing and storage will be vulnerable to attack or utilization. As more information is collected, the amount of personal information stored will increase significantly. Many new devices and sensors lack basic protection against hackers, so appropriate security and risk mitigation planning will help the deployment of Internet of things solutions.Another challenge is data storage and control. All these new devices and sensors will produce large amounts of data that need to be stored and analyzed. Planning such data storage and analysis will be the key to enterprise continuous innovation.

All this is related to the journey of digital transformation, using digital technology to change business models and provide new revenue and value creation opportunities.Enterprises that adopt the information, analysis and action provided by the Internet of things will find a competitive advantage in the market. The Internet of things will enhance products, services and customer experience while providing a springboard for innovation and the development of new products and services. However, organizations should not rush to implement without a thorough review of their current technology and the goals they ultimately want to achieve from the Internet of things.

While some of these themes may seem daunting, bringing the Internet of things into your business will be a beneficial and necessary action to remain competitive. We are at the edge of the new technology frontier, and new platforms such as Ethereum based on blockchain will continue to tap the potential of the Internet of things. What we know today will change tomorrow, because it is a changing field, and over time, we will see more possibilities than we can imagine today. Please carefully examine the Internet of things to ensure that your enterprise is taking advantage of the future!
