Is that not considered loitering? I guess if you buy your tents at wal-mart it's a different story though... I know they let people camp in lines for huge releases, such as the wii. Why would you want to camp there tho?

I used to be on the planning commission in the town I am in, so I have a pretty good idea how much parking spaces cost. I worked in Calgary for a long while. At the moment, Calgary's average downtown parking rate of US$440/month is second only to New York (US$562 Midtown, US$533 Downtown). If you charge these kind of prices for parking, people think very carefully about parking in the city center and tend to take transit instead, which solves the availability problem. People who can not afford it do not park downtown, only rich people do. Everyone else takes the train. New York has its subway system, and Calgary is fortunate in that it has a first class light rail system.However, most cities are much more car-oriented and insist on charging a lot less for parking, which means they cannot provide enough parking for all their cars. It is an economic issue, like rent control. Were you actually violating something? If so, pay the ticket and learn to be responsible

Not always. Some neighborhoods have "resident only" or "permit parking only" posted. This is usually found near schools, amusement parks, city parks etc etc. where outsiders are always plugging up all the available street parking and the residents have no room for guests.
